Liza Du Plessis

Liza Du Plessis, Psy.D., HSP, is a licensed clinical psychologist dedicated to delivering evidence-based therapeutic services for children, adolescents, adults, and families struggling with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and adjustment concerns, including trauma, disordered eating, eating disorders, parent/child relationships, and mood and anxiety disorders. She is trained in and uses evidence-based approaches, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT Prolonged exposure (DBT-PE), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent management training, solution-focused, and strength- and mindfulness-based strategies. Dr. Du Plessis is a member of the NCFWC Comprehensive DBT Team.

Dr. Du Plessis attained a M.A. Counseling Psychology (Marriage, Family and Child Therapy) from the University of San Francisco, and a Clinical Psychology PsyD. from the Michigan School of Psychology. Dr. Du Plessis has over 15 years of experience working throughout the USA, United Kingdom, and South Africa. Dr. Du Plessis provided therapeutic services across various settings, including university counseling centers, community mental health centers, forensic units, and inpatient and outpatient clinics.

Dr. Du Plessis’ approach to therapy is rooted in relational, systemic, and humanistic theories, however, she strives to be responsive to her clients by employing evidence-based approaches, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive-behavioral (CBT), solution-focused, and strength- and mindfulness-based strategies where needed. Dr. Du Plessis strives to provide treatment that encourages, eases suffering, empowers and uplifts, helping clients to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.
